Damascus Hunter - Blue Maple Burl Handle

Crafted in Winnipeg, Canada, this medium-sized, all-purpose hunting knife boasts a stunning 300-layer composition of 1095 and 15N20 high carbon steel. This blade has been meticulously hand-forged and polished to reveal a beautiful pattern, making it a unique addition to any collection. While the blade has artistic features, each part of the knife is designed for use. The high carbon Damascus steel holds an excellent edge for skinning, and the locally sourced Maple Burl handle will keep the blade securely in hand and resist moisture, making this an aesthetic and durable piece.

While the pattern itself is dramatic, I wanted to source a really unique wood for these blades. One of my favourite woods to use is Manitoba Maple Burl. I work with arborists throughout the province to source unique pieces of wood, and this particular wood came from a tree in Selkirk MB. This wood will hold up very well and is extremely comfortable in hand.  The brass blade guard helps keep the blade securely in hand and ensures that your hand doesn't slip onto the blade under wet or messy situations. 

The first blade features a dramatic grain, infused with a blue stabilizing resin which shows hints of the natural blond colour throughout which I really enjoy. To add an extra feature, I integrated a piece of Mammoth Tusk sourced from the Yukon into the handle, seen between the brass guard and the handle itself, as well as another small accent piece of maple burl.

With the second blade I featured the natural colour of the wood, which has some natural red in it. I also wanted to add some extra colour, so I added a bolster with a light blue stabilizing resin. Furthermore, I added a small section of rams horn from Alberta. In the natural light it has a unique translucence about it that I really like.

These blades each include custom leather sheaths, carefully crafted and designed for easy carrying and safe storage.
