About

In the summer of 2013 I made my first knife, just a mild steel blade with 2x4 handle for a camping trip. I had been bitten by the bug of creating art and found steel to be the perfect medium to create limitless possibilities. I continued to hone my craft over the following years working in my parents garage as a hobbyist until 2019 when I realized that this could be a full time career for me, so I quit my job at the time to focus on making Fehr Forgeworks INC. a full time job.

In the beginning I did everything old school, forge and anvil, files and sandpaper. As my business grew I was able to put my money back into the company and upgrade equipment and I started to think long term. Knifemaking is an extremely physical job with lots of risks, but also a fair bit of monotonous work. I realized that if I wanted to make a living at this I needed to change the way I made my knives, and so I began to look into CNC as a way to reduce some of the monotonous and physically dangerous work. This journey led me to North Forge Fabrication Lab, which is the largest publicly accessible Fabrication Lab in North America, conveniently located only 15 minutes from my house. There I learned CNC skills such as CAD and CAM, as well as learning to operate the CNC Waterjet, CNC routers and mills, lasers, 3D Printers, Vinyl cutters and various other machinery to assist in growing my business.

While much of the monotonous work is now done by machines, all of the fine detail work and finishing processes are done by my hand in order to create a unique, high quality product at an affordable price for the consumer, but still enables me to do this full time. I currently work full time out of North Forge, where I have my own shop space within the 16,000 sq.ft shared workspace. I operate the waterjet, lasers, and routers on a daily basis, manufacturing parts for myself, other knifemakers, and many other types of businesses that need parts I am able to produce.

My main operation is still focused on my own brand of handmade knives, all made by myself in Winnipeg, Canada, and I offer a variety of blades in many different steels for a variety purposes, while maintaining the passion for hunting and camping blades that started my journey almost 10 years ago. Feel free to follow me on social media to see what I'm currently working on and a more "behind the scenes" look at my operation, and thanks for stopping by!
