Waterjettting

We offer CNC WaterJet services which create the highest quality product for a knife blank. All of our Waterjet work is done in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Using a jet of water at 30,000 PSI mixed with a granite abrasive the machine can cut up to 6" thick steel, as well as brass or copper for liners, and virtually any other material. Pricing depends on thickness, hole pierces, and inches of travel. 

We typically stock mild, 304 stainless, brass, and copper in various thicknesses, as well as the following blade steels in thicknesses from 1/16"- 3/16".

Waterjet has several advantages over laser or plasma cutting;

1. High Precision - The water jet can precisely down to 3/32" holes, with different tolerance settings to allow for pins to pass through, or be a press fit. Each blade is very repeatable which means that for production you can be satisfied in quality control and very minimal edge finishing as you will be left with a nice sandblasted edge free from burrs.

2. No HAZ - As the waterjet operates at room temperature there is no Heat Affected Zone like in laser or plasma cut blanks which can requiring additional heat treatment to soften the steel before you can work with it. Furthermore the heat from plasma or laser can cause cracking in extremely high alloy steels, which isn't an issue for the waterjet, which leaves a soft, sandblasted edge. 

Heat Treating 

We offer heat treating for 440C, AEBL, and Nitro V, at a minimum order of 10 blades per steel type. Pricing is approximately 15$ CAD per blade, but may be reduced slightly with large orders, and can be bundled with waterjet orders to have your blanks delivered to you fully hardened and tempered. 

CNC Handle Machining 

We offer design and manufacture services for knife handles as well. CNC machined handles ensure a high degree of precision and significantly reduce labour in the handle process. Our handles are machined so that they are smooth enough to the touch that you can start sanding at 220 grit, saving you lots of time and abrasives. Furthermore each hole is perfect which makes glue ups a breeze with no worry of misalignment. 

We typically stock wood up to 1/2" thicknesses, but can go thicker if requested. We currently offer the following handle materials, but are able to order in specialty materials as well:

Lasercut Leather Sheaths 

We stock Veg Tan leather in several weights and offer laser cutting services for your designs. While specializing in sheaths, we can cut any design and do laser engraving on the pieces as well as requested. One of the key advantages of laser cut leather sheaths is that we are able to cut in stitching holes to a very precise thickness, for lace, or any thinness of thread which makes sheath making significantly faster and much more precise.
